I always say God gave me tears for a reason and I USE them.:) As I sit here and reflect on the trip and the ways I saw Jesus touch lives, definately mind included, it amazes me the amount of love and compassion I saw while we were there. Jesus revealed some things to me that I desperatley needed to be brought to my attention for example.
Jesus has led me to go to college so i'm now in my 3rd semester and LOVING it I might add. I had chosen Early Childhood Education as a major although my heart wasn't entirely in that field I knew I was being led to college but wasn't totally convinced the ECE is what I was being called to do. After going to Vietman I am now CERTAIN what he has led me to do.....Communications. Being in Vietman, a severly deprived country according to any USA standard. To me, everything about it screamed HELP!!!! In one of my classes the topic of advertising came up and I learned that McDonalds spends 10 BILLION dollars a YEAR in marketing and advertising. I got to thinking about how much good could be done in ANY third world country, not just Vietnam with even just 1 percent of that kind of dough. That really "'hit home" for me. I am now convinced that the Lord has led me to the communications field to eventually help raise money for third world countries. I know there are many, many people that already do this but there is still such a need. All of these people need Jesus and I want to help in ANY way I can to make sure EVERYONE knows the sacrifice he made for all of us how much He loves them.
Blessings to all. Love, Rene'

Comment on Welcome

Jim,

What a marvelous and heart wrenching testimony. As I walked up the steps of the 707 and looked back at the Vietnam landscape, I said out loud, “There is no way that I will ever come back to this God-forsaken place”. I had spent the last 365 days in that country and I was ready to go back to the “World”.

Fast forward to January 2008. I had a dream that I was handing out cards to a large crowd of people and it was very urgent that they each received one. The cards had a series of numbers, 2 sets of two numbers and 2 sets of 3 numbers. A few days later, I heard about the Vietnam mission and wondered if it was part of this prophesy. I prayed about it and asked God if this mission was for me. I also prayed that if it was, then the doors would open to let me know. The doors swung wide open. I believe that God had chosen me to go back to Vietnam because there was work to be done. Then the spiritual attacks started. There was a time or two when I just threw my hands in the air and said, “I’m not going”! Then Donna and I would talk and pray about it and the attacks would subside.

Even after the team left for Vietnam the attacks weren’t over. When the plane started descending near the Vietnam coast, I started getting flashbacks from 1967. I thought to myself, “It looks just the same as it did 40 years ago”. I had flown on more than 100 missions over this part of Vietnam during my tour. I could even smell it before we landed. When the plane landed in Saigon, I found that I couldn’t get out of the seat. I just sat there for several minutes, staring out the window. I then heard that still, small voice saying “Get up Jim, I have work for you to do”. I answered back, “I’m just a nobody truck driver, what can I do?” “You’ll see”, the Voice said.

Was it decorating the kindergarten on Phu Quoc? Was it playing with the kids and taking their pictures? I know I was blessed when a little girl named Bam and her younger brother Lu asked to see the pictures I had taken. She recognized the picture of the church and said proudly, “My church!”. She then asked me hold out my hand and placed a small beaded bracelet in it and said, “For you”. I couldn’t hold back the tears. Maybe it was handing out candy and stuffed animals to the kids at the deaf and blind school at Bien Hoa. Maybe sharing a lunch of steamed rice with the orphans in Khe Sanh and buying them new shoes was what I was there for. How about on the flight from Hue to Saigon when I was sitting next to a Vietnamese businessman and he asked what I was doing in Vietnam. I told him, and he asked, “Why would you come all the way from America to do this?” I replied, ”Because we are Christians, and that’s what Christians do”. His nod and smile said it all. Will I go back?

“And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?’ Then I said, ‘Here am I! Send me'" Isaiah 6:8

Comment on Welcome

Dear partners in ministry. Thank You Lord for all the seeds planted. Please rain down Your Holy Spirit on the parched ground of Vietnam and may the love and light that have been shared blossom into eternal life through the knowledge of the Saving One. I pray that the enemy would not come and scatter these seeds, but that he would be bound and gagged!
